Lado Pochkua’s works depict travelling in time. His characters carry the signs of the past and at the same time they travel in the future through the contemporary forms of representation. Artist refers to such issues of contemporary philosophy as Theory of Simulacrum and research of the past. Pochkhua’s artworks co-exist with other simulacra spread in the information culture. They neither depict the original, true images of the past forms, nor create the only new realities. They are simulacra like other information tides.
Lado Pochkhua is a Georgian artist who lives and works in New York. Pochkhua was born in Sukhumi, 1970 during the Soviet period. In 1993, he graduated from Sukhumi College of Art. During 1992-93 as a result of the military conflict in Abkhazia, the artist had to leave Sukhumi and together with other refugees he settled in Tskneti, nearby Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
